FU*KED OVER

It has been two weeks since the recently installed General David Petraeus reported the supposed and disputed "progress" in Iraq, yet the controversy over the MoveOn.org add decrying him as General Betrayus continues.  That petty debate, which has since been made irrelevant by the way the right attacked Senator Kerry and Senator Cleland has effectively allowed hawks from the Senate to declare war on Iran.  Independent Senator Lieberman, Republican Senator Kyl, and Co-sponsor Republican Senator Norm Coleman have slipped an amendment into HR 1585 which many say can be interpreted as a declaration of war on Syria and Iran.  These two articles in the amendment prove especially alarming:

    (3) that it should be the policy of the United States to combat, contain, and roll back the violent activities and destabilizing influence inside Iraq of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, its foreign facilitators such as Lebanese Hezbollah, and its indigenous Iraqi proxies;

    (4) to support the prudent and calibrated use of all instruments of United States national power in Iraq, including diplomatic, economic, intelligence, and military instruments, in support of the policy described in paragraph (3) with respect to the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies;

The amendment makes use of this bait and switch questioning from the Senator from Connecticut:

We all know bait and switch tactics are a form of fraud.  These tactics presume some sense of security or stability will be assured, later we have found these promises fall far short.  I believe this act to be fraud.  I am explicitly saying these three Senators are defrauding the American public with this tactic.  How could it be anything else? General Petraeus even disagrees with Lieberman saying that the Multinational force should focus only on Iraq.  General Petraeus specifically says that actions outside of Iraq should be taken up by CENTCOM.  Centcom's commander is Admiral Fallon who has repeatedly pushed back on attacking Iran as late as May of this year.

It's important to note that Senator Lieberman knew he was writing the amendment during the Petraeus report when he performed this showing.  As Senator Webb astutely noticed, this amendment cuts off debate leaving the authorization for people who have been consistently proved wrong to manage the helm of our awesome military forces.

I think his blunt abuse of power while committing fraud is precisely why Congress gets such terrible poll ratings.  It is why so many use phrases like "gangsta state" and "criminal congress" which the free online dictionary defines as:
